Titan scores four unanswered in comeback win over Cape Breton
Mar 21, 2015 - 10:45 ADTFor their last road trip of the season, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan were in Cape Breton to take on the Screaming Eagles for the first of two games in as many nights. And while the season may be winding down, Mario Pouliot’s men were not short on effort as they skated away with a five to four victory.
However, the final score only tells part of the story, as the Titan won the game on the strength of a dramatic third period comeback, scoring four unanswered goals. The comeback was made all the more spectacular when considering that the Screaming Eagles scored two late goals in the second period, “confidence breakers” as they say in hockey jargon. Indeed, the Titan players used the intermission to rally as a team and came out in the third period with tremendous tenacity. Raphaël Corriveau, Christophe Boivin, Campbell Pickard and Andrew Ryan were the third period goal scorers.
Titan goaltender Daniel Vautour made 27 saves, while the Cape Breton gatekeeper, Alexandre Bélanger, turned away 24 shots. Kyle Farrell, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Loïk Léveillé and Phélix Martineau lit the lamp for the Screaming Eagles.
Christophe Boivin … on fire
The Titan forward may just have played his best game of the season on this night, as he ended the game with two goals and five shots on net, all of them taken from the slot area. Serving as proof that good things will happen to those who work hard, it was an offensive result well-earned for one of the fan poll leaders to name the team’s hardest working player.
Kerr makes his mark
Another Titan forward, Aaron Kerr, was also terrific on this night, as the center completed his night with two assists, both of which were picked up during the third period comeback, and a plus two differential. Furthermore, he recorded three shots on net, including two taken from the slot, and was dominant in the face-off circle, winning eight of his 13 one-on-one duals.
Ryan, like a good wine
Andrew Ryan, the Titan’s 20 year-old veteran forward, was dominant all game, as not only did he score the game’s winning goal, but also added one assist. Likewise, he picked up four shots on net and won six of his 10 match-ups in the face-off circle.
Guillaume Brisebois continues his good work
Having recently been on a tear, Titan captain Guillaume Brisebois continued his good work by completing the game with one assist, as well as three shots on net and three body checks.
One last game
The two teams will face-off again on Saturday afternoon at 4pm in Cape Breton. It will unfortunately be the last game of the season for the Titan.
However, Titan fans can pick up their 2015-16 season tickets right away, as season tickets are available at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre box office, by phone at 549-3200 or 1-877-549-3200 or online at admission.com
